by Steve Gibson, Aug 16, 1999 4:23am PDTDue to the overwhelming popularity of the Shack messageboards Sander has been hard at work on a new system which should pretty much blow you guys away. (He's putting of my Shack search engine for this, bah!) Homeboy has come up with some crazy user profile stuff offering up total customization of views, and even more exciting is the ability to create your own messageboard. There will be a basic configuration system for those of you who arent very particular, and over 100 (!) possible options for the superfreaks like myself. I had a look at the early config menus yesterday and if any messageboard system were to ever cause an orgasm, this one would probably be it. It looks like VE is gonna do comments and Blue is gonna do messageboards, so I gotta get something new out there yes? Feel free to make suggestions on features you guys would like to see. New stuff to play with: ICQv3.17 #2565, as well as a new Windows Media Player. New web page to play with: TikTok.org

What is the real improvement over quake 2?
Think about it: Quake3 theoretically has a better
graphics engine than Quake 2, but how could I know that?
All I see is a red-brown-gray color scheme in all of the levels.
Granted, there are curved surfaces, but since I\'m not a graphics whore,
a slight increase in visual quality will not win me over. Then there are the
weapons. Every single weapon. except for the plasma gun has appeared in every previous
Quake game, and I dare say almost every FPS out there. Q3 is multiplayer only, but it\'s the same
type of multiplayer that I\'ve been playing in Quake 2 with mods, and with Team Fortress Classic.
So there\'s nothing new there. I\'ve downloaded every single Q3 test so far, and all I\'ve heard is how great the code for multiplay is.
Well, I don\'t have a regular modem, so all this bitching about ping really doesn\'t involve me. So tell me folks, besides a minor graphics overhaul,
what does Q3 do that Quake 2 doesn\'t? Frankly, I have the same opinion on Quake 3 that I did for Q2: The only good think about it is the engine, which other companies will
use to make GOOD games that have a shred of innovation behind them.
