Call of Cthulhu gets some eerie new screens

The big face-tentacled guy doesn't make an appearance, however.

If you've ever played Chaosium's pen-and-paper RPG Call of Cthulhu, or read any of the HP Lovecraft novels and source material, you know the nightmares that can be generated. Cyanide Studio is working on bring those bad dreams to PC and consoles next year, and has released some new screenshots to show how far the madness will go.

The great tentacled one and his ilk don't make an appearance, but a good set-up always builds anticipation for when when his cult followers help the Great Dreamer awaken. Not much more has been revealed about the game, which is being published by Focus Home Interactive. Frogwareswas originally slated to develop the game, but by E3 of this year, Cyanide was at the helm.

Check out the screens.

I would hope Cthulu doesn't make any appearances. Correct me if i'm wrong, but the whole idea behind Cthulu is that he truly cannot be stopped and if anyone were to lay eyes on him they would be driven mad. Ideally, the game would revolve around trying not to see Cthulu as much as possible. If Cthulu is summoned, it's game over.

The mystery behind is appearance is more important to me than his actual appearance.

I'll always respect Cthulu shit because Alone in the Dark was fucking fantastic on my 286, but fuck me I'll never play that kind of shit again, it's terrifying.

It was pretty damn good. I really wish the PC port wasn't a fucking mess in modern systems, though.

Awesome! And it looks like it's FPS again, which could work really well.
