Steam Winter Sale 2016 Begins Today

Prepare for Saint Gaben to make your cup runneth over.

63

Steam Winter Sale 2016 starts today at 12:50 PM ET/9:50 AM PT and ends on January 2 at 1:10 PM ET/10:10 AM PT. The Autumn sale was only a month ago, but the Steam Winter Sale promises, even more, savings.

The dates for Steam's Autumn and Winter sales leaked about a month ago, but we're still not sure exactly which games are going on sale on which days. This is typically the yearly sale that has the best and most bargains, though, so if you've been waiting for a price drop on a particular title, chances are it'll receive one during the Steam Winter Sale.

Once the sale begins, we'll update this article with some of the best deals available. Only three more hours to go until we get a look at the tremendous savings.

Update 1:

This isn't a Steam deal, but on Amazon there's a sale on the Steam Link ($19.99/$49.99reg), Steam Controller ($34.99/$49.99reg), and Steam Controller Wireless Receiver ($9.09/$12.99reg).

Update 2:

The Steam Winter Sale has started, but unfortunately it seems Steam is having issues with handling the increased traffic load. If Steam is not loading for you just keep checking back every five minutes or so.

The steam subreddit usually has the list of games that are on sale. I think the games subreddit also has a list.

        December 22, 2016 8:13 AM

There's no hurry to look. With the new format, every game is the exact same price for the entire 10 days of the sale. It's not like you're going to miss a flash sale.

Also, if you've got a smart phone, just get the STEAM app, and browse the store on your personal cellular data. It doesn't use that much.

I honestly kind of miss the flash sales and other stuff that went with the Steam sales in days of yore. I mean, I totally get why they switched away from that stuff, and I get why others might like this new format more. But for me at least, the Steam sales with their flash sales and other short lived sales gave me a reason to check every day (or twice a day!) and be excited for what I might find. Now I just skim through right at the start of the sale and I'm done. Oh well.

No more Early Access titles for me. After the ARK developers released a paid and content complete DLC for the core game when the core PC game is nowhere near complete and still has massive performance issues(I've heard Xbox One still has these issues as well) and the debacle that is/was DayZ(where Dean Hall literally took the money and ran after Bohemia bought the IP from him), I have soured on Early Access. However, ASTRONEER is the very RARE exception for Early Access and anyone not grabbing that at $20 is missing some joyous gaming experiences! Eonix and his team ROCK! Freaking love the game! Anyone else think The Kerbal Space Program and Astroneer would make a hilarious crossover?

not entirely true. There will be games that aren't on sale at all that will go on sale just for a couple of days. its just once they are on sale, it won't go lower during the sales period.

Now with their new refund policy there's no point to them having flash deals etc since you could just refund it to rebuy at the lower price.

You can get the bundle for SFV with all season1 characters and akuma and the unannounced season 2 characters for $48.

There's still no arcade mode, but for single player stuff you have:
        * Story mode (pretty easy and only 1 round per fight but it's a cinematic story similar but not as well done as MK story mode)
        * Character story mode (similar to above but for each character)
        * Combo trials for each character
        * Survival mode (interesting idea but too punishing to be fun since you can't continue)
        * VS CPU

For local multiplayer there's pretty much only VS, or you can also do local training mode if you want to learn stuff as far as punishes etc, but that's it.

It's a decent controller for that price, but if you don't need an extra one I'd just stick with what you have.

Exactly this. I bought one and decided an Xbox1 controller to be better in the end.

I use mine for Elite Dangerous - the extra paddles on the bottom are helpful, I use them for side-to-side ship motion. For everything else, normal controllers are better. There are third part apps such as Controller Companion for games that do not natively support xbox controllers.

it's a great device if you're willing to learn its intricacies; if you're otherwise expecting a plug and play experience, it's not it.

I bought a Steam Controller and have touched it like 3 times ever. I still wind up using my 360 Controller for basically everything.

Steam Link I use constantly since I bought it. It took a little bit of time to configure it well and get used to what it could actually handle but once I figured all that out it's been great.

GRID free on Humble Bundle (Steam Key) if you don't have it. Can't be gifted, you gotta get it yourself. Legit non-arcade racer with large car/class/track variety (not quite hardcore sim either though)

Yeah, GRID is a solid racer, I enjoyed my time with it a couple years back.

God, what happened to the powerstone IP? It feels like Microsoft could have acquired that as a smash bros competitor. I loved that game

It's the best game ever made, slightly eeking out Doom for the top spot recently on the abrasion index. Although as time goes on and Dark Souls remains timeless, GTAV ages, sooner or later Dark Souls will be #1.
