Verant Responds

Remember that story about Verant banning a girl from EverQuest for something she posted on another website that was not owned or affiliated with the company? Well they are offering up an explanation now. Basically they felt that the girl was writing a story that cast a negative light on the EverQuest universe, and Verant in fear of the media linking this chick with EverQuest pulled her account.

...However we need to protect EverQuest's good image as best we can. Did we handle this as well as we could have? No - We didn't. And for that, I apologize. In the future, we're going to handle this in a different way

  • 13 -- He stated they suck and why he felt that, but $10 a month had nothing to do with it. Christ, I spend that on lunch, like I care.

Xian -- I cringe to think I'm siding with Abashi, but frankly, don't play the game that way and expect it to be entertaining. EQ has its merits and good points, there's no need to sit there and kill the same thing over and over looking for an item, as much as the playerbase might think so. They do NOT in fact need that +5 Club of Slightly Betterness. The ones that realize that are having a much better time, but also aren't the ones setting the pace of things since they have better things to do.

Asheron's Call isn't bad, in many ways I like it a great deal, but somehow AC manages to feel almost completely directionless and generic, which coupled with a really stop and go feeling interface lost me very fast.

  • The answer is complicated and extremely subjective, so I'll just have to be honest and say we'll know it when it's over the line. We're going to discuss it in the upcoming few weeks and see if we can make it more clear, but I can't honestly say if we'll get anywhere because none of us wants to stop people from writing awesome fan-fiction about EQ.

    Dear Verant,

Your recent actions have thrown those of us writing awesome Everquest fan fiction into serious doubt. Some of us are facing creative crises as a result. Please advise at your earliest convenience if any of these proposed storylines is over the line:

-- Dysentery strikes Everquest, but it's a special form, and everyone shits gold! At first the local economy is shaken by the influx of this super valuable shit, but in time everyone decides it's much easier to drop trou when you want something than to work for it. The Age of Shit, as it is known, produces many wonders and inventions, including zip-lock wallets.

-- As part of Verant's new emphasis on honesty and openness, all the men playing women in Everquest are outed, then led to a giant pit, and fitted with Accuracy-in-Gender penises. These, naturally, are taken from the women who are playing men. The bells of equality ring throughout the land, although prized penises are soon up for auction on e-Bay.

-- Feudal Realism Week! Ninety-nine percent of Everquest's population are declared peasants, and a handful of lucky sods get to be lords! Time to toil, peasants -- there's a lot of farming to be done before you die of a tooth infection at the age of 28. Just be sure to keep your wives healthy for lordly visits!

    Sincerely,

    Hi-C

  • If Verant really wanted to make right on this, they should unban the account and make a public apology. Oh, wait, that would mean they'd have to admist they were wrong, and Verant's NEVER wrong.

(snip) ...and they feel like EQ is a family friendly environment despite the dark overtones of some of the stories and quests.

(snip) ...it becomes our business because it threatens our business by making us a huge target for all the folks out there that think we all are all a bunch of violent video game players. This just gives them fuel for the fire.

Hmmm... Correct me if I'm wrong (I've never played EQ), but isn't this a game where you advance by killing, spend most of the time killing, and the overall object is to get bigger so you can kill bigger things?
