Pokemon Sun and Moon could be headed to the Nintendo Switch

Multiple sources have confirmed Nintendo is currently working on a version of Pokemon Sun and Moon for its Switch console.

A previous report claiming the Nintendo Switch will have a Mario, The Legend of Zelda, and Pokemon game within six months of its release appear to be holding true as a new report claims we could be seeing a new version of both Pokemon Sun and Moon on the upcoming console.

The report cites multiple sources who claim the Switch version of Pokemon Sun and Moon are already well into development and is expected to launch in 2017. As of now, the title is codenamed Pokemon Stars and may be the third title launched within the same game world, but with expanded features.

If the report holds water, this would mark the first time a mainline Pokemon series made its way to separate Nintendo consoles within the same video game generation. This could also boost sales for the Switch as we can’t imagine fans of the series not wanting to get their hands on a console version of the handheld game.

So is this what Nintendo is about now...Pokemon. I can't even remember a reason to look their way anymore.
Every time I get excited about something from their camp they manage to knock the wind right outta me.

It's been one of their biggest handheld franchises since 96 when Red and Blue came out.

Yeah it's easily one of their most reliable IPs. It's crazy how well those games retain their resell value.

Yeah it's an easy win for Nintendo. Unifying the platform is quite possibly the best thing Nintendo could do for their long term health.

$250 Switch and Pokemon Stars will be hard to pass up for a lot of people.

If they come out at a $250 price point that's pretty much a buy to me for the new Zelda alone. The PC covers most of what I'd want from the PS4 or Xbone barring a few exclusives and the Switch would basically round things out as I tend to have more interest in something that occupies a different space.

You must have missed the amazing lineup of games they released for the Wii U, along with Mario, Mario Kart, Zelda, and Splatoon headed to the new system. But hey, if them leveraging Pokemon to support their new system is a deal breaker, then rock on. It's not like they've sold over 279 million Pokemon games and it's one of the top selling franchises of all time.

Pokemon... and Mario, and Zelda, and Pikmin, and Splatoon, and Donkey Kong, and bastardizing Metroid, and Fire Emblem, and Xenoblade, and saving the occasional beloved 3rd party IP, and all the Mario spinoffs (Paper Mario, Mario & Luigi, Mario Kart, miscellaneous Mario Sports titles, Mario Party, Mariomariomario), and Kirby, and Pushmo, and Boxboy, and Picross, and Animal Crossing, and forgetting what made Starfox good, and the occasional middling Yoshi game, and Smash Bros, and trying weird shit like Codename S.T.E.A.M., Chibi-Robo, and HD re-releases.

It runs out of steam a bit in the end there but this is all stuff from the current generation.

lol if making a Pokemon game means they're all about Pokemon, when has that ever not been the case?

Wow you get triggered about Nintendo even quicker than I do.

They still make Mario and Zelda too so there's that. Pokemon is like effortless money for them. Nowadays they just look at random objects sitting around the room and base pokemon off them. But it prints money for Nintendo and it moves units so let them have it. There will be other first party games on Switch to play, I can guarantee that much.

Pokemon games have sold almost 300 million units for the last 20 years. The only franchise that has sold more is Mario.

Its nothing new and its not going away.

Yes having a handful of popular games within the span of a few months of a twenty year old franchise means that they're only about Pokemon. You nailed it.

If the rumored price ends up being right, and they do release an updated version of PS&M, that'll be an easy purchase decision. I could see me playing that with my kids.

I'm kind of hoping it's just a port of smash simply because I still haven't had the chance to try out the DLC characters

If it happens I suspect it'll be a port + all DLC + some extras. Maybe also merge some modes from the 3DS version like Smash Run, we'll see.
