Rumor: Nintendo Switch price possibly leaked
Toys R Us' Canadian branch let slip an online listing that pegged Nintendo's next console at around $250.
Earlier this morning, the Canadian branch of Toys R Us published an online advertisement listing the Nintendo Switch at $329.99 CAD, or approximately $245 USD.
The listing, which has since been removed, was spotted by WCCF Tech. Nintendo announced that it would reveal the Switch console's price on January 13. At that time, the company will also offer a glimpse at games to be released within the system's March 2017 launch window.
Assuming the $245 price point pans out—likely rounded up to a more retail-friendly $249.99—the Switch would be competitively priced. Nintendo has said that consumers should not expect the console/handheld hybrid to compete directly with PS4 and Xbox One; a $250 price tag would keep it out of Microsoft's and Sony's $300-$400 range.
More importantly, the Switch would be perfectly positioned for parents looking to buy their kids a new handheld gaming device.
Nintendo put years of speculation to rest when it unveiled the Switch on October 20. That same day, NVIDIA discussed some details of its custom Tegra processor that powers the console. The Switch tablet displays games in 720p and features a capacitive touchscreen.

Assuming the Pascal Tegra rumors are true, $250 sounds spot on. The nVidia shield tablet only runs for $200.

Did it go for $200 at launch? I think that's more important to know, since the Maxwell architecture was new at the time, just like a Pascal Tegra would be a brand new thing in March.

Good observation. The dock and little controllers shouldn't add too much cost to the package. Having the right games near launch will be the deciding factor on whether they can price a little higher..

I'm curious, Shack. Assuming this price point is within, say, $50 of being true, and more than one person in your household would use one, would you buy two or more?
I think I would. My wife and I love playing games together. Right now we play Dark Souls by one of us using the PS3 in the living room and the other staying in our bedroom; we communicate via Skype or a cell call. It's fun, but obviously we'd rather be in the same room.
If I could get two Switches for ~$500, I'd jump on that in a heartbeat.-

I've been wondering how this works too. I have two kids, although only the 7 yr old would be able to actually use it. The 4 yr old would want a new "tablet" too. Assuming I got a 2nd unit (for myself, naturally), I wonder how they might work together, and if you can use different people's tablet half in the same dock.
Going to have wait 2 months for those answers. And, I hope we get those answers too. Still so many unknowns on this thing will really work. I fear it won't be as flexible as I'm hoping this regard. That would be a little too forward thinking for Nintendo. MS or Sony, maybe. But, not Nintendo.-
My guess would be that the dock is passive.

Well, we can clearly see usb ports on in the video. Two of them, in-fact. So, they've got an idea about something connecting there. EXT storage? Extra controllers? There's also a question about how downloadable games will work. The tablet isn't going to have a ton of internal storage, if nothing else to keep the price down. So, they're going to want to put that in the dock and it'll be up to you to manage your files/games between long term dock storage and active use storage on the tablet. This is all just my own speculation. But, given that the rumors are for this to come under $300, I just don't see the tablet having more than 8-16 gb of internal storage.

This is supposedly going to use their new network. We'll have to see whether or not sharing was considered a big enough plus to be included. My bet is it will only work if it's tied to an account but even then you'd need multiple copies for most multiplayer games.

i remember the ps2 was 450 + tax because of our exchange rate was like 1.5:1 back then. accounting for inflation thats about $700 back then

The thing to remember is the last nVidia Shield tablet was $300 at launch. So since this thing is basically just a new version of that with a different control scheme then $250-300 isn't out of the realm of possibility. I tend to think however that the $329 price is correct but that is the price in USD not Canadian.
