Firewatch now has a free-roam mode to lose yourself in Shoshone once again

Need to take a hike? Firewatch's new free-roam mode can help with that.

Campo Santo has released a free-roam mode in Firewatch, allowing would-be park rangers the opportunity to explore Shoshone once players complete the main game.

Firewatch’s free-roam mode can be found in the special features section of the main menu. The new game mode gives players an open world to explore free of any objectives to tie you down. Free roam features a dynamic 24-hour hour day cycle and miles of trails to explore.

The mode is now available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One with a Steam release coming later today.

That's cool. I wish more games would do that. I wish there was a way to soak in the environments of Mirrors Edge without bad guys giving you shit.

Free roaming is only meaningful if there's interactivity. This is why open world games lose a lot of its luster when the main story is done and sideshows are blend. The only exception I know is STALKER (and maybe Witcher), which has an ALife system where AI behaves and interacts independently.

This is a moving version of a video of a fireplace or a running river on netflix.
