Nintendo has announced Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King will release on the Nintendo 3DS on January 20, 2017.

Fans of the original release of Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King will be happy to hear Square Enix has added a bunch of new content, including two new playable characters, more side quests, and new story content that will shed some more light on The Hero and Dhoulmagus. Additional quests to complete, new dungeons, and a new alternative ending are also included.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King has also received some much-needed tuning for its handheld release. Players will be given a Quick-Save function that will allow them to quickly save and exit the game at any time. A new “Speed Up” feature is also included, which makes battling enemies much faster, which could certainly be helpful if your 3DS’ battery is getting to its critical point.

Photos can also be taken within Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King, as long as they’re taken outside of battles and cutscenes. Players can customize their photos, including special poses, stickers, filters, and frames.

The camera feature can be used to earn rewards once the player meets Cameron Obscura in Port Prospect, who will task them with taking pictures of certain subjects, monsters, and situations. All photos taken can be saved to their SD card, and then shared with other players via StreetPass. Players can then rate them, and the more thumbs up a photo receives, the better the chance to earn a new item.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King will release on the Nintendo 3DS on January 20, 2017.
