Update: An Activision spokesperson contacted us to tell us that there is nothing new to report and that the FAQ we linked to near the end of the story is still the company's definitive response to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered.

Original Story: Some fans were a bit upset when it was revealed that Call of Duty Modern Warfare Remastered would only be available as a package with Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare when it comes out on November 4. However, a comment by Raven Software's David Pellas seems to hit that there could be a standalone version coming later.

At the Call of Duty XP fan event, Pellas made the announcement that all 16 maps from the original game would be remastered and free, not just the 10 coming when Infinite Warfare was released. "What we announced before today was that we were going to offer 10 maps on launch, and that's still true," he told GameReactor. "The announcement today is that the six remaining maps we are actually going to be delivering to anyone who purchases Modern Warfare Remastered, anyone who owns it or a version of Infinite Warfare that comes with it, they're going to get all 16 of the maps for no additional cost."

The phrasing, while a bit odd, hints that a standalone version may actually arrive some time after Infinite Warfare is launched. And Pellas should know since Raven is doing the Remastered version.

Activision is staying mum on the issue, having previously stated in no uncertain terms in its FAQ for the game that "you must own Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare in order to get Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered."

As for why the six additional maps are coming later, Pellas said that giving the visuals a quality upgrade takes time, and they could n;t get all of them done before Infinite Warfare was scheduled for release. They agreed with Activision that 10 would be doable while maintaining the quality expected, but the goal was always to do all 16 for free.
