Obduction finally released from Myst-developer Cyan

A VR version for Rift coming soon.

After almost three years in development, and one delay, developer Cyan has released its Myst and Riven-inspired title Obduction.

The game, which garnered $200,000 more than the $1.1 million it was seeking in crowdfunding via Kickstarter in 2013, is not a direct sequel to the games. If you haven't followed the game's development, here's the description: "A curious, organic artifact falls from the starry sky and inexplicably, without asking permission, transports you across the universe. You’ve been abducted from your cozy existence and added into an alien landscape with a stereotypical Kansas farmhouse, a white picket fence, and a rather bizarre little ghost town - well… almost ghost town. Adding to the oddity, you discover a strangely kluged kiosk that reassuringly welcomes you to Hunrath."

Cyan has acknowledged there may be some issues with the game, saying in their update that "there will be plenty of upcoming updates to fix all the nasty little things that crop up."

A VR version of the game for Rift is also in the works, but still needs a bit more optimization. Cyan said there are still some issues, but codes backers receive for the game will also include the Rift version when it becomes available. "We don’t have an exact ship date for it, yet. We’ve got an update already underway that we’ll be testing as a possible candidate for VR release."

If you weren't a backer, the game is available through Steam, GOG and the Humble Store for $29.99.
