Civilization VI 25th anniversary edition unveiled

Extra content and goodies for an extra cost.

It's hard to believe that the original Civilization came out 25 years ago, but indeed the classic is that old. And to hammer the point home, 2K Games and Firaxis want you to celebrate with a special edition to commemorate the anniversary.

For $89.99, you can get Civilization VI: The 25th Anniversary Edition complete with the game and all the content of the digital deluxe edition, plus:

  • 25th Anniversary Edition premium packaging
  • Exclusive 25th Anniversary commemorative coin set with display case
  • “Civilization Through the Years” 100-Page hardcover art book
  • Aztec Civilization Pack pre-order bonus

In case you missed it, the digital deluxe edition includes the 25th Anniversary Digital Soundtrack and access to four post-launch DLC packs that will add new maps, scenarios, civilizations and leaders.

And, of course, what would this announcement be without a canned quote from the master himself: “The vitality of Civilization is in the new ideas that each design team brings to the game as well as the passion and feedback from an incredible community,” said Sid Meier, director of creative development at Firaxis. “We hope players enjoy the vibrant living world and the new features the team has created in this latest offering. I’m proud of the work they’ve done, and I hope you will enjoy playing Civilization VI as much as they’ve enjoyed making it. Here’s to the next 25 years!”

What do you guys do with art book stuff like this? I've collected a few over the years. I thumb through them, and then almost never look at them again. I rarely "read" through them. But, sometimes they're really pretty to look through, or nostalgic (like that Amiga, C64 book).

I initially considered buying this, but yeah that's why I won't. It sounds like a nice package, but at some point it'll just sit and collect dust.

Waiting on this one. Maybe even for the first expansion. I've been burned too many times by buying Civ on release.
