Fake Half-Life: 3 announcement spotted at Gamescom 2016

At this point, who knows when Half-Life 3 is coming?

Gamescom is taking place in Cologne, Germany this week, and while we can expect a few surprises to be unveiled at the show, what we didn’t expect to be among promotional images for upcoming games like Titanfall 2 and Watch Dogs 2 was one for Half-Life 3. Yes - you read that right. There’s a promotional image for Half-Life 3 at Gamescom 2016, but don’t immediately get your hopes up as it appears this is being considered some world-class trolling.

The Half-Life 3 poster was originally spotted by Eurogamer which was purchased by a media company to promote some of its properties, including Spieletipps and GIGA. The promotional banner is written in German, but translates to “Half-Life: 3 editors who played it back then.” In other words, the banner is promoting three editors who played the original Half-Life when it released back in 1998.

While we’re happy to hear both Spieletipps and GIGA have three editors that played the original Half-Life, we think this banner could easily be confused for a Half-Life 3 promotional banner.

Wait - that was the point? Oh. Well now we just feel silly.

Is Valve making games anymore? They haven't released anything in a while now...

Where is LFD3, Portal 3, Half Life 3 :( or a new IP? Hmmm all of those have the number 3 in them Half Life 3 confirmed

He has a point, it would seem they just baby around DOTA 2(and rightfully so for its the golden egg aside from Steam) and that is about it.

With all there resources, Source 2 engine, financial security, reputation, Steam and talent or the ability to get any new resources they need they should be at the front of making some of the best games in the industry.

Well that is my take, its a shame "With great power comes great responsibility." I guess Valve is afraid to use the Ring :( or feel they don't need to.

I think they should skip 3 and make LFD VR, Portal VR and Half Life VR.

Nooooo :( , I bet you would freak out if they did that :) as the VR man.

Since I don't have VR and get motion sickness really easily from FPSs and low FOV games it would kill me if they bailed on their regular format.

They should carry both on, 100% do a VR line but make it totally fresh and do the 3s as well as normal games that be epic and make everyone happy.

At this point anything would be good. I actually would bet they are doing what you said and they will all be VR titles.

Did you try Vives roomscale? I've had zero motion sickness problems from it - and I used to get pukey a lot with the Rift

I've spent 6 hours inside the Vive some days, and never had any problems (apart from being a sweaty smelly videogame developer nerd)

I would find it hilarious if Valve was actually behind this and that Half-Life 3 was actually coming out soon and Gabe was using these fake ads to troll the fucking shit out of everyone.
