One of the most terrifying parts of We Happy Few’s grim world is when you find yourself quickly running out of steam as you rush away from mad Wellies trying to rip the life from your beating heart. You push to move faster, but your exhaustion meter keeps falling, pushing your character closer and closer to death. Most times this issue can be resolved by sleeping in a bed, however, on the off chance you’ve somehow contracted the devastatingly terrible ‘Plague’, sleeping your way to health just won’t help you.

The Plague is a deadly disease in We Happy Few, and while it can be contracted many different ways, it can only be cured by finding and crafting the recipe for the Phenocycline Syringe. So just what is the Plague, and why should you be afraid of it? Well, unlike the other maladies and negative effects in We Happy Few, the Plague never goes away. The timer never runs out. Sleeping won’t make it better. Healing items won’t help at all. And as time wears down, the Plague seeps away at your energy, increasing your exhaustion to the point of death. It also makes it exceptionally easier for you to fall prey to Wellies while on the run, as your energy runs out much quicker, cutting your time for exploration and thievery a lot lower.

So how do you find this Phenocycline Syringe? Well the answer to that question is actually really easy. In order to be able to heal yourself of the Plague, you’ll need to make your way to the game’s second area, Lud’s Holm. From there you’ll need to locate and enter your Safe House, where you will find this recipe resting on top of the Chemistry Station inside. To craft this item you have to approach the Chemistry Station and have the following items in your inventory:

  • 1 Empty Syringe
  • 1 Antiseptic
  • 2 Filtered Water

If you don’t know how to make Antiseptic quite yet, just locate a Rotten Potato in the game’s first area, and you will automatically acquire the formula. Once you have crafted the Phenocycline Syringe, use it on yourself to cure Arthur of the Plague, allowing you to return to your life of thievery and exploration.
