Nintendo wants Legend of Zelda's producer Eiji Aonuma to 'create a new IP'

A stealth game perhaps?

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild still has people talking after its crazy debut at E3 2016. But that doesn't keep Nintendo from pushing forward with plans for new games, including a possible new franchise from Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma.

“Actually, Nintendo has been telling me to create a new IP," Aonuma told Edge magazine (via GameSpresso) in an interview. "But then, they’re also telling me to make more Zelda games."

He obviously didn't divulge too many details, saying he wasn't sure he was allowed to talk about it. "But I really like the idea of a game where I can live as a thief," he teased. "That’s all I’ll say.”

Aonuma began his career making games for the NES and SNES, but in 1998, Shigeru Miyamoto recruited him to the Zelda team. He started with The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the N64, and has been surpervising or producing games for the series ever since.

Best of luck to them. People rag on Nintendo for milking their franchises, but when they do make something new (Splatoon) no one is breaking down doors to get a copy.

Didn't it sell well? I love splatoon. So much fun.

Better than Super Mario 3d World last I saw, like 4million copies on a 13million user base.

It may have, but it seems like there's no hype / no one talks about it

Plenty of people do, even here. It's been out for quite a while now, though.

4.27 million in March. 6th best selling Will U game which seems pretty good.

That sounds pretty good for a multiplayer-focused new IP on a Nintendo console. You'd think most people interested in multiplayer at all have a different primary system.

Aonuma has talked for a while of wanting to make games other than Zeldas. Breath of the Wild's radical departure from Ocarina of Time's template came about from him putting his foot down.

As much as I love the Zelda titles under his direction, I trust him as a designer, and look forward to whatever he makes next.

It would be nice to see Nintendo come up with some new franchises overall.

I'd be okay with a new IP, even if it didn't turn into a franchise. I think Nintendo needs to keep trying new ideas. Not sure how many franchises a publisher can keep going at the same time, but there's gotta be a tipping point. However, given how weak 3rd party support for the last few systems have been, it's probably the safer play for Nintendo to work on new IPs.

Totally agree ^^^ , they need to branch out and build/add to their current IP line up, fresh blood would be cool to see.

I am looking forward to it, I hope ti will be cool.
