More Rambus Royalties

After sueing several memory makers, Techweb is reporting that Rambus looks to be going after AMD and Transmeta next to collect royalties for the Rambus memory patents. Both companies have announced support for DDR SDRAM (Rambus holds the patents on that interface). Thanks Chris Tom @ AMD Zone.

Rambus refused to discuss its legal strategy, and a spokesman for Transmeta declined to comment. An AMD spokesman would say only that the company "as a Direct RDRAM licensee, does have discussions from time to time with Rambus. We can't characterize this discussion. We are aware of Rambus' intellectual-property portfolio."

  • Maybe someone will get smart and file a class action lawsuit against RAMBUS on behalf of all PC Users for attempting to drive up prices through monopolization of the market and challenge their right to the patents they claim, based on the alleged fact that they lied to the memory consortium about their patent portfolio when they join and that they allegedly lied to the memory consortium while filing patents based on the formation of the SD-RAM standard before withdrawing after they had the IP they wanted to steal.

    Fuck RAMBUS.
