No More Q3Test-Next Up Q3Demo?
by Marcus Yam, Aug 13, 1999 11:06am PDTJust as QuakeCon was wrapping up, Steve had posted some information regarding the possibility of a fixed demo playing feature, as well as DieharD's demo being included. Well Blue just received an email from Graeme Devine giving us both bad news and good news, all at the same time:
No there will not be a special update for playing back the QuakeCon levels. We're in pretty much the final push now to get this thing out the door and we've started to make CD images etc. to test out the game, so another test is looking doubtful. I expect the next update will be the full demo, followed in very short order by the game itself.

There\'s so much potential in the single player game working your way through specific characters like in a lot of the fighting games. I really hope that id don\'t give us a half-baked sp game just so they can get it out of the door more quickly. When your paying for time online, bots are an excellent way to learn levels and the more realistic the better.
i think not..
i admit i have a shitty 33.6k connect with my 56k modem..
and its gotten 1000x better since 1.05
and that locking.. i dunno but if you notice it its newbie players standing still and shooting....but i havent noticed it..
usually if some one stand around like that they stand there and get killed.. then respawn and grab the rail gun and try to snipe you while you circle strafe round them and put a rail in the back of their head a few times then they leave...
as for the bots... they got that gladaitor bot programmer doing the bots supposedly? (T/F? Dunno) but if the bot progress has been the same as the networking code we could see some sweet bots out of the box
And as For UT....if it hogs resources like Unreal did then its system req will be like a p2 400 with 128meg of ram and tnt2 ultra...
its not getting bought by me...
Networking in qw was the best. I know.. it\'s not quite as smooth as q2 or q3, but it was the most \"honest\" with you. Q3 covers up so much.. that at times you may experience bad PL for a second but it \"intelligently\" washes over it and you\'re left trying to figure out why \"that guy didn\'t die.. I swear I shot him!\" Or the whole, \"quad damage.. DENIED!\" That\'s just a cover up for the networking smoothyness when the client thinks it has quad but the server reports right back \"no you didn\'t!\"
qw with a good connection just can\'t be beat.
No. 8 the reason to be worried is that they haven\'t done anything about in the 3 tests that were released. That is
cause to be concerned since the finalized demo is next.
Also has anyone heard anything about a slider to adjust client/server side prediction? I heard it twice but I don\'t
know where the info is coming from.
In my opinion, Q3A is riding on the name right now.

Course, I prolly shouldn\'t talk about moving, since Steve railed the shit out of me. Bastich. ;)

Still, the news is quite good. When they talk about making CD images, it means they basically know all the files that are to be in the final distribution. This is really far along. Looks like we\'ll easily have it by Christmas, after all. I want it for Thanksgiving. LAN party at the in-laws is a BLAST.
