Fallout 4 mods on Xbox One drew '50x' initial traffic of mod launch on PC

Bethesda promises new features for mods coming soon.

For decades, user-created mods have represented a dividing line between PC and console versions of games. Earlier this week, Bethesda knocked the wall down by integrating support for mods to the Xbox One version of Fallout 4.

Less than 72 hours removed, and the results justifiably have the publisher crowing. "Xbox traffic was 50x the initial #Fallout4 PC mod launch," per Bethesda's official Twitter account. "It's a new world & just the beginning."

In the same tweet, Bethesda reminded users that mods will be coming to the PS4 edition of the game in June, though a specific date has not been announced.

Fallout 4's mod tools for Xbox One appear to be nearly as flexible as the game's PC counterpart. Users can pack in up to 2GB of content, and mods can be installed without altering the player's progress in the official game.

But, as Bethesda said, this is just the beginning for Fallout 4's mod scene. The publisher has more features coming down the line, likely to be announced once the toolset makes its way to PS4 users.

        It is such a worthless metric to claim, when everyone is already using what was established months ago for PC mods instead of Bethesda's very late to the game hosting setup.

        It's still cool that mods are being used at all on console, they should be saying how many are actually being downloaded or something instead of a meaningless comparison like this. Makes no sense.

          Seems strange that they'd put in a comparison like that instead of just saying that it's being used really widely.

          I mean, it's hard to compare. If you're just looking at the total number of users installing things from the Steam Workshop, that leaves out the folks who use NMM, or other mod managers, or just install it manually. Not that I know if you can do things, I haven't messed around with modding Fallout 4 at all yet.

            Still, it's pretty awesome that modding can happen on consoles now. I wonder if other companies will keep up and make this a trend.

              There's not really any other developer who supports modding in the way Bethesda does, so I don't expect much.

              To be fair, modding can't happen on consoles. You can run the mods on a console, however.

          They should compare the number of downloads to the length of football fields.

          Fallout 4 mods drew more traffic than 50 football fields long.

      how are these console mods created? are there tools to do so on consoles?

        Mod tools are still PC only, but the mods themselves are cross compatible if they meet the requirements.

        they are ported from the PC... all the tools and mods are created on the PC version.

      Is there a way to browse the mods without having an xbox? I'd like to see if there are any graphical enhancement mods and bug fix mods

        I'm pretty sure they're just talking about the official Beth mod store, which is pretty pointless because everybody who uses mods on PC gets them from Nexus Mods. It's kinda like claiming that there are 50 times more iPhone users on the App Store than Android users.
