Wii would like to hit the silver screen.

Nintendo is looking to enter the movie business in the next few years, but what could we expect out of this announcement?

According to the Japanese publication Asahi, current Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima has announced that the company is looking to produce films at some point within the next five years. Further reported by AP, Nintendo is supposedly intalks with film producers as we speak and could be looking to bring a straight-to-video release or theatrical presentation to light pretty soon.

As far as where the funding will come from, Nintendo will supposedly finance its movie ventures by selling off the stake it has in the Seattle Mariners baseball team. It all sounds like a pretty wild turn of events for Nintendo, sure, but when you consider its turning to mobile games, the upcoming NX, and Nintendo's other decisions as of late, it all makes sense. Unfortunately there's no information yet on which franchises will make the jump to the big screen, but as long as it's not a repeat of Super Mario Bros., it'll probably all be okay.
