Shenmue 1 and 2 in HD a possibility if 'quality' is there, Sega says

With Shenmue 3 somewhere off on the horizon, those who didn't get to play the original Shemue games on the Sega Dreamcast may be wondering what all the fuss is about, but have no way to find out - unless they have the old console gathering dust somewhere. Sega hears the wailing and gnashing of teeth - or at least those Twitter questions.

In a episode of Sega Central, Dan Sheridan responded to an Ask Sega query on the possibility of a Shenmue 1 and 2 remaster, saying it is not as simple as porting the games to the current platforms. "We would need to ensure that any HD remaster lives up to the quality of the original titles."

He addeded there are also licensing complications from products included in the original games. But he did say that the company would love to do a remaster and is seriously "investigating how to make it a reality."

As for an update on Shenmue 3, which blasted through it's Kickstarter after its announcement at E3 last year, Yu Suziki's team at Ys Net said in its latest update will be looking into making the game logo similar to Shenmue 1 and 2, but said that right now, development takes precedence. It will also look at the possibility of letting the game be voiced in Japanese and English, but it sin;t likely because of budgetary concerns.
