Persona 5 Is Rocketing Toward Japanese Shelves This September

Finally, the wait is over...for Japan.

5

After what seems like one of the most excruciatingly long waits ever, Persona 5 has a release date -- for Japan, anyway. It's headed out for release on September 15, and that's only a few months away!

Along with the release for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, there's a special edition coming with several goodies that'll run you 13,800 yen (about $129) as well as a less flashy edition that'll cost about 8,800 yen (about $88).

The special edition comes with a pretty awesome-looking art book, the 20th Anniversary of Persona Series All Time Best Album, special DLC, and a case to keep it all in. But that's nothing compared to the knowledge that you've got a shiny new Persona game to enjoy for months to come. Probably months, anyway.

Despite all this new information and a trailer that's just been dropped, however, there's no definitive western release news just yet. I surmise that'll be coming along soon, but all of this is great news to start the day out with anyway, so as more info comes out you'll be able to find it here.

They're classic JRPG style turn-based combat, with very heavy importance placed on rock-paper-scissors elemental weaknesses.

Outside of combat the games (starting with Persona 3) have a japanese life/dating-sim feel to them where every day you decide how your character will spend the day, which in turn could raise a certain stat or your social standing with another character. Raising your social standing with another character will raise your level with certain types of persona cards, which are kind of like pokemon demon pets you use as special abilities during combat. I just realized I'm going down a rabbit hole here so I'll just stop and say Persona is awesome.
