Dawn of War 3 announced with a kick-ass trailer

We now have something more than a 30-second JPG.

We knew it was coming and here it is: Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 3.

The official Dawn of War Twitter feed revealed the trailer with few details other than "Death comes for all." And the official site says that the game will indeed be developed by Relic Entertainment, the studio that had made the previous installments to the game in 2004 and 2009.

"This is the Dawn of War that fans have been waiting for," said executive producer Stephen MacDonald in the Sega press release. "Our biggest units ever? Check. Giant orbital lasers? Check. Base-building, epic heroes, huge battles, it's all in there. Get ready for the biggest Dawn of War yet. For the Emperor!"

The dev team launched a primer for fans who aren't familiar with the Dawn of War RTS franchise. The primer covers the first two games and the expansions. They have already created a forum for the game as well.

If you want updates, you'll need to create a Relic account. It promises "The loyal are rewarded", so extra perks could come for early adopters.

It will be a PC download, but no release date has been announced.

From Sega's official site on the game, we get the following details:

  • Dawn of War is famous for its epic action and those immense clashes are back - but now they're off-the-scale. Wage war with massive armies across violent volcanic terrain or onboard battlecruisers travelling fast through space.
  • Take your battle plans to another level by deploying powerful collectible elite squads, each boasting their own special abilities and bonuses that will help you unlock and develop new attacking strategies to conquer your foes.
  • Cause devastation on the battlefield with powerful super-abilities . Rain down total destruction on your enemies with the Space Marine's Orbital Bombardment, the Eldar's blistering Eldritch Storm or the Ork’s Rokks   to counter your unsuspecting rivals.
  • Learn what makes each force formidable through  alternating missions. You'll soon come to understand the combat advantages of Space Marines, Orks, and Eldar and the rules of a universe with no heroes or villains… only war.
  • Build your own universal army from the very first moment you are matched in a melee. Progress through battle after battle with loyal troops by your side across both challenging campaign missions and dominating multiplayer maps.
  • Your army will wreak havoc in online co-operative mode. Join the multiplayer community and forge new alliances - then turn the tables on your new 'friends' as they become foes in explosive, chaotic and competitive maps.

Go pray to this sandstorm and do not come back until Sand Christ personally tells you to return.

Imperial Knights I think, sort of a step in between Dreadnoughts and the smaller Titans, prob going with them since still semi vulnerable to tanks/heavy weapons? Dunno about the Eldar one.

Might have some Titans too, would be cool

Correct on Imperial Knights. The Elder one is a Wraightknight.

probably wraithknights. basically they are eldar born as twins, where one dies (or is killed on purpose) and is put into a spirit stone and the other twin volunteers to be interred along with them inside a giant machine. unlike wraithlords and most of the eldar titans, the presence of a living creature makes the machine extremely agile, fast moving, and reliable (instead of just disembodied souls who are sometimes problematic due to not really being able to interpret mortal, physical stimulus)

basically the dead twin is the fuel source, the living twin is the pilot, and they are in symbiosis.

They gotta be adding Ork Stompas too, right?

you know, ive only watched it once, but i didnt see any orc walkers at all. id assume killa kans again, and at least one of the bigger walkers. id like to see a gargant! it wouldnt be "accurate" obviously unless they are going to have actual titans from the other races, but id be ok with them scaling to balance, like they did with the Killa Kan in DoW1 and DoW2.

              gargants is so orky!!!

Stompas are just mini Gargants and the Ork parallel to the Knights, so I'm thinking we will see them in game.

Ah pretty cool, never heard that bit of lore. Didn't the Eldar full-fledged titan pilots need to be triplets as well, though not interred in the titan itself?
