Coalition and Microsoft won't be throwing open the gore-soaked gates of Gears of War 4 until October 11. If you don't like the thought of waiting five and a half more months, Xbox Live Gold members can download the Gears of War 4 beta right now, for free.

To get the beta, go to your Xbox One dashboard and search for "Gears of War 4 beta." You'll need 7.09 GB of free hard drive space to download and install the beta. This beta runs through May 1, this coming Sunday, so get in as much time as you can.

As a reminder, only Xbox Live Gold members can participate in the beta.

Gears of War 4's public beta follows an early access period that ran from April 14 through yesterday, April 24, available to anyone who pre-ordered the game's Ultimate Edition. Speaking of, Gears of War 4: Ultimate Edition will set you back $99.99, but includes all sorts of goodies like a season pass good for 24 new maps, Gear Packs, and extra character skins, among others.
