Ghostbusters coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC on July 12

Who ya gonna call? Three friends, that's who.

Back in January, reports surfaced of media tie-ins to promote the forthcoming movie reboot starring Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy. Today brings official word that Activision will be releasing a video game (loosely?) based on the film on July 12, three days before the reboot hits theaters.

Apropos of the cast of characters, Ghostbusters the game will let you and three other friends grab proton packs in the form of game controllers and bust up some ghosts. You'll play cooperatively, and can even choose between male and female characters if you prefer Egon and Ray over newbies Abby Yates and Erin Gilbert.

You can check out a trailer for the game here.

I'd be so pleased if this was along the lines of the Ghostbusters game from a few years ago. With the exception of some atrocious teammmate AI and some impossible encounters on 'Hard' difficulty, that game was a perfect Ghostbusters game.

I wish it was made by a company other than Terminal Reality. The game turned out really well (and the delay in switching publishers really helped with the polish) and the multiplayer was surprisingly fun.

But I think that in the hands of a better developer it would have been a much better game than it was. The way, way waaaay overuse of Elmer Bernstein's score from the original (and only having the actual Ghostbusters theme for just a moment) without having really any original music really bothered me, as did the big lie about Aykroyd and Ramis writing it (but that's marketing for ya) along with Murray's voice acting being off most of the time (but boy did Aykroyd, Ramis and Hudson knock it out of the park).

But you're right, it's certainly the best Ghostbusters game to date and it's a pretty good game overall (even having to do the retard roundup every now and again). I have a feeling it's gonna end up being better than the reboot coming this summer.
