Gears of War 4 embraces CCG craze with new Gear Crates and Gear Cards system

Collectible cards will soon be invading the Gears of War franchise when Gears of War 4 releases later this year.

The Coalition is joining the collectible card game mania that’s recently been injected in a good majority of popular games these days, including Halo 5: Guardians, as we’ve learned Gears of War 4 will use a similar system called Gear Crates.

Gear Crates will require players to earn credits across all game modes in Gears of War 4, which can then be redeemed to purchase Gear Crates. The game will feature three different tiers of Gear Crates, each containing a variety of durable and consumable Gear Cards, which come in a total of four rarities. Weapon and character skin personalization Gear Cards will only be available for us in Versus multiplayer, so as to not affect its core gameplay.

Consumable Bounty Gear Cards will also be available, although they won’t be consumed until the player complete the bounty associated with the card. Once the bounty has been fulfilled, the player will then be able to earn the award attached to it.

While The Coalition director of community Adam Fletcher stayed tightlipped regarding the use of Gear Crates and Gear Cards in Horde mode, we can’t imagine a more perfect game mode than Horde to make full use of these new items. Hopefully we’ll learn more about the use of Gear Crates and Cards in Gears of War 4 outside of its cosmetic uses.
