Everyone loves some good Blizzard animation, and the company continues to put it to good use in getting players ready for Overwatch, which will be released on May 24. The first of four animated shorts focusing on heroes in the game came on out March 21, overing more insight in the gorilla Winston. The newest video looks at the assassin Widowmaker and her run-in with Tracer while trying to make a hit.

Widowmaker's story has portrays her as a super assassin for Talon, kidnapped and conditioned to do their bidding. Her first job after she was returned to "normal" life was to kill her then-husband, an Overwatch agent. The video shows many of her abilities, including her grappling hook, venom mine and the pinpoint accuracy of her sniper rifle.

Also in the short is Tracer, a former Overwatch agent who sees Widowmaker trying to make the hit. Tracer uses her time-jumping Blink and Recall abilities as well as her pulse pistols to great effect. Missing from the video is Tracer's "victory pose", which caused some concern, prompting Blizzard to respond with a promise to remove it.

The animated shorts are part of Blizzard's campaign to give background to the heroes of Overwatch. Also planned is a series of free digital comics that will debut in April and will continue through the game’s launch. The six-issue series will focus on different heroes, like Roadhog and Junkrat and the power-armor wearing Reinhardt. Later this year, an Overwatch graphic novel called Overwatch: First Strike will debut, looking at events prior to what players will experience in the game. It will detail how some of the team's founding members deal with a global robot uprising against humanity.
