The Uchigatana is a powerful katana found in the early areas of Dark Souls 3. It is a katana-styled weapon that features a bleeding effect, however it does offer low durability. This guide will show you where the find the Uchigatana, as well as outline the weapons statistics and moves.

Finding the Uchigatana

The first thing you'll need to do is continue through the game's opening moments until you find yourself facing off against Ludex Gundyr, the first boss of Dark Souls 3. Once you've defeated him, and opened the gate behind him, it's time to continue forward up the path.

But wait, don't enter the Firelink Shrine just yet. Instead you'll want to take the path to the left of the gate at the top of the hill and circle around the wall until you spot a lone figure at the top of a few sets of stairs.

This enemy is fairly tough, and might prove to be a bit overpowered for your starting character. He attacks quickly, and the katana he uses also causes bleeding, so you'll want to make sure you have your Estus Flasks filled and ready to use. We found it was best to dodge his attacks and wait for him to hold his katana out to his side. This is a perfect time to strike and deal a few blows before rolling away and out of reach before he can recover and launch his own flurry of attacks.

Alternatively you can simply kick the enemy off the cliff and into the abyss. Then return to the bonfire at Ludex Gundyr and rest there. Once you return to the stairs to the left of Firelink Shrine the enemy will be gone, and he will have dropped 2,000 Souls, a pair of Master's Gloves, the Master's Attire armor, and the Uchigatana.

Statistics and Description

The Uchigatana is a katana weapon that causes bleeding in addition to the normal physical damage that it causes. The weapon does have a low durability, however, so you'll want to keep some Repair Powder on you at all times. When attacking the weapon relies mostly on vertical slashing and a few thrusts. This is extremely helpful for small corridors, and hard to fight places where a horizontal slashing weapon would normally strike against walls.

If you want to wield the Uchigatana you're going to need to make sure you have 16 DEX and 11 STR. Initially the weapon starts off with a D rank in Dexterity scaling, however this should improve as you reinforce it.
