The Division has grossed over $330 million worldwide in its first five days of sale, Ubisoft announced today, making it the company’s best-selling game and the game industry’s best-selling new game franchise in an opening week.

“The Division taking the top spot in the industry for first week sales of a new franchise is a tremendous achievement. We are very proud of our teams, and humbled by and thankful for the millions of players who are giving us their feedback and support,” said CEO and co-founder of Ubisoft Yves Guillemot. “The Division is the latest example yet of our unique ability to deliver immersive gaming playgrounds that keeps players engaged and that they eagerly share with their friends and community.”

Today’s news just comes nearly a week after Ubisoft revealed The Division achieved “record-breaking” sales during its first 24 hours. At the time, the company didn’t reveal any definite numbers, but as you can see today, those numbers are extremely impressive, especially for a new game.

The Division hasn’t only sold extremely well, but it’s also breaking engagement records for Ubisoft. The title surpassed 1.2 million peak concurrent users over the weekend with players spending over 100 million hours playing on UPlay in the first week.

“On top of record breaking sales, player engagement is the highest ever for any Ubisoft title, demonstrating, among other things, that our investments in our online infrastructure and services are paying off,” said Ubisoft’s VP of online services Stephanie Perotti. “We are delivering an online experience that’s on par with the best in the industry, and that matches the quality and connectivity demanded by The Division and its players.”

How much of those sales numbers are accounted for by free copies with video cards?

They did a huge push for this game on video cards.

Man, I don't know how the marketing departments figure this stuff out. Like watchdogs and destiny, new IP's, but the studios seem pretty confident they will be huge money makers.

I think they might just have a list of bro-friendly aesthetics and gameplay elements that they can mix and match.
