Original NVIDIA SHIELD receives Android 6.0 Marshmallow today
Those with an OG version of the NVIDIA SHIELD can enjoy everything Android 6.0 Marshmallow has to offer.
NVIDIA has announced Android 6.0 Marshmallow has officially arrived on the original SHIELD tablet.
Today’s update offers a similar experience to what SHIELD tablet K1 owners received a little over a month ago, which includes a new NVIDIA SHIELD camera, new adaptable storage, and improvements to both power consumption and its user interface.
The OTA upgrade will first be available for Wi-Fi versions globally with International LTE versions also receiving the update. US LTE tablet will begin to receive the update in the near future.
Here’s a full rundown of everything the update has to offer:
New NVIDIA SHIELD Camera
- New UI inspired by Material Design, improved burst photo functionality
- Adds new real-time HD Image Effects
Now on Tap
- Quickly find information related to what you are seeing on the screen, also from inside an app
New Adoptable Storage
- MicroSD cards can be integrated with main internal storage, auto managed by system
User Interface Upgrades
- Personalize Home & Lock screens with different wallpapers, new NVIDIA wallpapers
- Personalize Quick Settings menu, add/remove, rearrange toggles
- Google Now voice commands can be launched from lock screen
Improved App Permissions
- Permissions are now managed centrally
Power Consumption
- App Standby power improvements
- New App Optimization feature
- Improved BT Low Energy scanning power efficiency
System wide improvements including
- Monitor Memory Usage with detailed usage of each app
- Improvements to WiFi Connectivity
- Optimized preloaded apps
- Update to Android 6.0 Security Patch Level January 2016

Maybe I' missing something but I remember the portable coming out first and I can't seem to find a record of anything else from earlier.-

The tablets aren't the same. They aren't on the same software cycle.

What's weird to me is that right now he original Shield sounds like a great idea and something I'd like to buy, except they discontinued them and don't make them anymore.
Now they have the tablet and I just have to wonder - how many people want to carry a tablet around and then set it up and have a separate controller? It seems like something that would be neat once or twice but ultimately not something you'd want to do often.
Back when the original Shield was out I remember thinking it was neat but I had way more things that the $250 would be good for. Maybe if they had stuck it out for longer it would have been an eventual hit.-
