Apple Licenses Amazon Patent
by Maarten Goldstein, Sep 19, 2000 10:03am PDTOk now this is pretty stupid right here. Apple has announced it has licensed the one-click technology by Amazon. Basically this allows you to order with just one click on a button, which has been absurdly patented by Amazon. Last year the company even sued Barnes and Noble over it. But Apple has now licensed this tech, even though they knew it wasn't much but they wanted ''to do the fair thing, and be responsible.''...if they paid anything more than 5 cents for this thing it is too much.

writing software can be just as intellectually
challenging as designing a mouse trap.
do you think if the mouse trap is very
easy to use, then the designer has no
right to protect his idea?
they're not patenting the act of pressing
your finger against the mouse button,
you know.

First I was like, look, I don't want my info. sold, so take me out, they responded saying they couldn't do that, because of warranty reasons on shit I had purchased....I'm like fuck the wwarranty take me out...well they said they couldn't because they had to keep records, I'km like fuck that, so I write an email from my brothers email saying I am dead (hehe), and they said they would make sure and not give out my personal NAME for respect reasons, but the address, etc. would stay, so they still wouldnt' take me out of the database...

I SERIOUSLY doubt they wanted to "do the right thing", they just wanted a deal with Amazon on some other topic and offered this as incentive.
Instead of acting like a supermodel-turned hooker, Apple should stop charging users for the things that will keep them interested, and hopefully coming back for more. There's a time to charge customers, and there's a time to give them the world. Apple charging for a stupid beta is definitely not the time.
Every time Apple 'does the right thing' and 'is responsible', their poor users take it in the wallet by having to pay for obvious freebies, generating revenue which is needed to offset technology licensing such as Amazon's One-Click. It may seem like a great deal now, but we all know who pays for it.
Thanks!
