Rock Band 4 has opened Rock Band 1 exports

Rock Band 4 owners on PlayStation 4 can now import songs from the original Rock Band disc, while Xbox One owners wait in the wings.

Harmonix continues to work towards getting its old-generation, on-disc Rock Band tracks into Rock Band 4. The next step is getting songs from the original Rock Band onto the new-generation hotness and that process looks to have begun. Today, Harmonix announced that Rock Band 4 owners on PlayStation 4 can now begin importing their Rock Band tracks.

The Harmonix website instructs PlayStation 4 owners to do the following, taken verbatim:

  • Start Rock Band 4 and navigate to "Get More Songs."
  • Scroll down to the tab "Exports."
  • Navigate to the "RB1 Disc Export Pack"
  • Select "RB1 Disc Export Pack."
  • If you have been verified, it will say FREE to the right of the Pack.
  • Selecting this will bring you to the PlayStation®Store for your free download.
  • Press the white arrow located next to each track to begin the download process.
  • Once complete, navigate to your song library. The exported Rock Band (1) tracks should be available in your song library to play! Be sure to restart Rock Band 4 if you do not see your recently downloaded tracks in-game immediately.
  • You can always navigate to the "Add-Ons" section of Rock Band 4 in the Main Menu to download any individual tracks you did not initially download from the purchase completion screen.

Rock Band 4 players will then be able to play all of their Rock Band tracks. Well, almost, anway. These eight tracks are not included, though Harmonix pledges to make them available soon:

  • Anarchy Club - "Blood Doll"
  • Bang Camaro - "Pleasure (Pleasure)"
  • Death of the Cool - "Can't Let Go"
  • Freezepop - "Brainpower"
  • Honest Bob and the Factory-to-Dealer Incentives - "I Get By"
  • The Acro-brats - "Day Late, Dollar Short"
  • Tribe - "Outside"
  • VAGIANT - "Seven"

It should be noted that this offer only applies to those that have already exported their Rock Band tracks to previous Rock Band games prior to today. Picking up an old Rock Band disc and starting the import process from scratch will not work, due to licensing issues.

Speaking of licensing issues, this is a good time to note that certain Rock Band songs will soon be leaving the DLC library. According to the Harmonix forums, the following tracks will leave the DLC store before an unspecified January date:

  • Guns N Roses - "Chinese Democracy" (LP Chinese Democracy 01 Pack)
  • Guns N Roses - "Scraped" (LP Chinese Democracy 01 Pack)
  • Night Ranger - "You’re Gonna Hear From Me" (Night Ranger 01 Pack)
  • Nazareth - "Hair Of The Dog"
  • I Mother Earth - "Levitate"
  • Hawkwind - "Master Of The Universe"
  • Superchick - "Stand In The Rain"
  • Silverchair - "Straight Lines"
  • Guns N Roses - LP Chinese Democracy 01 Pack
  • Night Ranger - Night Ranger 01 Pack
  • Tom Petty - A Woman In Love (It’s Not Me) (Live) / Century City (Live) / Jammin’ Me (Live) / Nightwatchman (Live) / The Waiting (Live) / Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers Live Anthology Pack 02

This post will be updated as soon as the Rock Band 1 export offer becomes available to Xbox One users.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
