Oculus Is Giving Kickstarter Backers A Finished Rift Headset Free of Charge

Those who invested will see full returns.

6

Great news for early adopters of the Oculus Rift VR headset. If you went ahead and paid enough during the original crowdfunding campaign via Kickstarter, you may very well have a free consumer-grade version of the VR headset coming to you for free.

The finished version of the Oculus Rift comes packed with both titles regular buyers will be receiving as well: Eve: Valkyrie and Lucky's Tale.

With the length of time this project has been going on and the amount of people out there eager to jump on the VR bandwagon, this is actually an interesting move for Oculus, and a pretty benevolent gesture for those who had faith in the project.

Looks like it might finally be time to start thinking about nabbing one of these finished products, too. VR is still an intriguing field to explore.

I was backer #1266. I remember trying to call my wife the second I heard the kickstarter go up. She was swimming, and I didn't want to spend $300 without talking to her first. I must have called like 10 times in a row until she picked up, said yes, and I took the plunge.

Since then, I backed and then unbacked castAR, got a DK2, and have been stuck wondering about the Vive. I was totally convinced I was going to just "wait until the dust settles". Heh, now it looks like my hand is forced (in a good way). My PC is kind of a relic, so I need to upgrade. We need to do some "Oculus PC upgrade" threads or something.

I'm #1,451 and in roughly the same boat - PC is kind of old, and I was going to wait to see what the Vive had to offer. Now I don't have to bother. lol

I have a 1200 watt power supply sitting around back from my bitcoin mining days. I guess I can build around that. Hmm, gotta find a motherboard with 3 USB 3.0 ports?

How much would you sell your dk2 for?

Yeah we'll see. I'm going to be pretty broke for the next few months. Still trying to get caught up on mortgage etc after being unemployed for a while last year.
