Final Fantasy 6 fan-made graphics patch now available on PC

This year, Square Enix released Final Fantasy VI on PC with the updated mobile version's graphic style. Those looking for something a little more vintage can now find what they're looking for, thanks to a dedicated modder.

Earlier this year, Square Enix released Final Fantassy VI on PC, but with a modernized graphic style that has left some old-school FF players seeing red. After all, part of the charm of the original game was the sprite character models. Now it appears that one intrepid modder has gone to the trouble of putting a fix together.

Late Thursday night, a new patch was posted on Steam, removing the bilinear filters from the character models, making Final Fantasy VI look more like the classic Final Fantasy VI.

Final Fantasy VI isn't getting a huge discount for the Steam Winter Sale, but it is getting a modest discount, for anyone looking to put this patch to work.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
