It's winter time and that means it's time for a handful of games to issue out some big updates. The latest one is coming from Dota 2, which has issued the first details of its Balance of Power update.

The update will introduce several new characters. They include Zet the Arc Warden, making his return from Dota: All-Stars. Zet is a powerful hero, able to utilize slowness, evasion, and doubles to his advantage. To help match that power, Zeus is getting a new item called Arcana, which him all-new models, textures, animations, effects, and a cool new chariot.

The changes aren't limited to characters, as Dota 2 is also getting a snowy winter wonderland sandy desert wasteland known as the Desert Terrain. This opens up new maps, like the Desert Colosseum and offers a keen new backdrop for the new Ultra Shadow Quality video option that's making its debut.

There's much more to find in the Balance of Power update, like new items, more changes to the in-game Dota map, changes to the Store, a new Arcane Rune, and numerous balance tweaks. Details on all of those can be found on the Balance of Power page.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
