Psychonauts 2 raises $1.1M in under 24 hours

With a goal of $3.3M, the question shouldn't be if Double Fine is able to raise the money, but when will it reach its goal.

It hasn’t even been 24 hours since Psychonauts 2 was revealed during last night’s Game Awards show, but the highly-anticipated sequel has already earned over $1.1M, which is approximately 1/3 of its $3.3M goal.

Double Fine has partnered with Fig this time around for the crowdfunding of Psychonauts 2. The studio is putting up a “significant portion” of the development funds themselves, while getting another piece of the budget from an external partner. The Fig crowdfunding will make up the third piece of the budget for Psychonauts 2. “None of these three parts on their own is enough, but together they add up to a sequel worthy of Psychonauts,” Double Fine writes in a statement submitted to Shacknews.

Psychonauts was originally released back in 2005 on Xbox, PC, and PlayStation 2 and was published by Majesco. Even though the game didn’t sell well, it was received extremely well by critics and fans alike. Fans of the original game have been clamoring for a sequel for quite some time, and to hear one is being considered ten years later has many excited about this opportunity. Hopefully Double Fine can achieve its goal, although at its current rate, we have no doubt they’ll make the $3.3M with a little over a month left to collect.

Why didn't you link to the actual crowdfunding campaign?

      I googled for it:

      Exciting!

I'd love to see Psychonauts 1 released on newer consoles. I want to 100% this game again!

people are still willing to give them money after the debacle that was Broken Age? I love Double Fine but I don't like this idea.

Debacle? I got my $15 in kickstarter money out of that a few times over. Would've been fine if the game itself had never come out and they just released the documentary.

Yes, everyone hated that game /sarcasm. You can not back it if you want, but making assumptions about the rest of the people is really lame.
