Death Online
by Steve Gibson, Sep 14, 2000 2:13pm PDTWe were going to save this one for Evening Reading but I thought this was something that would probably overshadow the rest of the stuff. Doug Wolcott pointed out this website which is working towards covering executions of prisoners online. Pretty morbid stuff. Here's the quick tagline:
Welcome to death.com. Coming soon - online coverage of executions. This is the kind of thing that really pushes the envelope on those 'rights' we have in America. Disgusting. I heard about this a couple of weeks ago and its more oriented towards the whole spectacle of death thing than just informing people.

What's disgusting about it?
All you are seeing is justice being doled out. Shouldn't be a problem.
I'm not really sure what I think about the death penalty (due to questions about its racist application in this country and the fact that it isn't terribly effective), but right now it's legal. So it's the law of the land.
Don't give me that "We've come too far to be doing such barbaric things".
We haven't come all that far. We still pretty much suck.

Only possible in the country that fights any other country that doesn't support freedom and human rights, but still puts it's own people in gas-chambers or electric chairs: the good ol' USA. Hypocrisy at its best.
this is right up his alley.
I found a couple but I think this one is sufficient:

Yes, it is again an anti-death penalty site. However along with many more facts are REFERENCES. IF you want to ignore these, then feel free.
Cosmicfool, I merely stated something I considered to be an accurate and you responded with namecalling and unfounded conjecture. You provided no evidence to back up your claim.
I'm guessing you are either a loudmouthed 16 year old who may grow out of it or you are so closed minded that there is really no hope of you ever learning anything from anyone.

A black guy is smoking weed in Central Park. Odds of arrest if eyed by a cop? 1 in 8.

Keep up the good work!
IMHO
[sarcasm]Hrm, why not combine this with another redneck past-time and hold public executions by drawing and quartering at the monster truck rallies? Let the trucks tow around the random body parts until the end of the show and leave the body out on the field to be run over and over and over. Sure to be a real crowd pleaser!!![/sarcasm]
I'm not against the death penalty, but I think that the burden of evidence to get the death penalty should be a hell of a lot higher than it is. Shit, in Texas (and no, this isn't a jab at Bush, since he can't do anything about it), you can be sentenced to death on hearsay and have the review board refuse to hear retry you because they think you are a bad enough person that a trial with a sober and awake attorney wouldn't have made a bit of difference.
Bullshit. You should have DNA AND eyewitnesses or other physical evidence (but the DNA is a MUST) at the crime scene in order to even be able to see the death penalty.
