Nintendo has announced new details for its upcoming Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash that includes new moves, gameplay modes, and amiibo support.

Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash will support select amiibo, whose characters can be brought into the game as a partner in online doubles matches or to battle strong computer-controller opponents in Knockout Challenge. The more an amiibo plays, the more experience and skill it will gain. As of now, the following amiibo are confirmed to be supported by Nintendo:

  • Mario
  • Luigi
  • Peach
  • Bowser
  • Yoshi
  • Yarn Yoshis
  • Rosalina
  • Wario
  • Toad
  • Donkey Kong

A number of game modes will be available in Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash, including the previously-mentioned Knockout Challenge, Mega Battle, Classic Tennis, and Online Multiplayer. Knockout Challenge features tense tiebreak matches against increasingly difficult opponents. Mega Battle offers players the chance to grab a Mega Mushroom, which will cause their character to grow to gigantic proportions, thus allowing them to dominate on the court.

New moves are also being introduced in the game, such as the Ultra Smash, which has the character leaping high into the air to smash the ball down to a devastating effect. Colorful Chance Areas will appear on occasion to help players perform a super-strong smash or slices.

Nintendo has also revealed a number of controller options will be available as players will be able to play with the Wii U GamePad, Wii Remote, Wii U Pro Controller, and Classic Controller Pro.

Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash is scheduled to be released on November 20 exclusively for the Wii U.
