World of Warships gets haunted by ghost ships today

World of Warships would also like to get in on the Halloween fun this year and it's doing so by introducing a pair of ultra-powerful ghost ships that will be captained by Wargaming staff members.

World of Warships continues to sail along through its open beta phase, but even games that center around combat on the high seas can celebrate Halloween. That's why Wargaming is digging into the spooky idea of the ghost ship for the game's seasonal update.

According to the World of Warships website (via Massively Overpowered), two new boss vessels will haunt the seas. The Phantom Fortress and Salem Witch are a pair of spectral battleships that will be captained by the Wargaming staff. Because the ghost ships are extremely powerful, any team lucky enough to have one as an ally will have fewer allies. Teams don't necessarily have to destroy the ships, but simply win out over the other team to get major loot drops.

The ghost ships will appear at any time of the day, but their frequency will increase between the hours of 6PM and 11PM PT. The World of Warships Halloween event begins today and runs through November 2. Those looking to try out the free-to-play naval combat game can find it here.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
