Dragon Quest Builders shows off slight differences to Minecraft in new video

We're learning some more information behind Dragon Quest Builders thanks to a newly-released 30-minute video, and even though the game oozes Minecraft, there are some differences.

Square Enix announced Dragon Quest Builders back in July, and today, we’re seeing seeing the game in action. As you’d expect, it oozes Minecraft with some slight differences.

Dragon Quest Builders will feature helpful NPCs that will help guide the player through their adventure of building and breaking various blocks. The NPCs will also have quests that need to be completed, which we can see one character asking the player to fix up their home.

Completing quests will earn players new recipes, which is a more helpful approach to easing players into DQB’s building mechanics than Minecraft’s. Just like Minecraft, the player will need to venture out beyond their comfort zone to gather materials needed to help build particular structures or items.

Dragon Quest Builders is scheduled to release in Japan on January 28, 2016 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita. There’s no word yet on its Western release, although considering how popular Minecraft is outside of Japan, we’re sure it’s only a matter of time until Square Enix announces its upcoming availability.
