Been looking forward to this one for a while (gonna try it at home), Apple has just announced the release the first public beta of OSX. The 'sorta' new OS is a bit of a combo between nextstep and *nix flavors and is hailed as the 'second coming' for Apple. The current OS9 running on Mac's has been hit pretty hard by the press and developers for poor memory management.

The public beta version of Mac OS X will go on sale Wednesday, Job said [snip] While many software developers make their beta releases available for free download, Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple is charging $29.99 for the disc in the United States.

Steve Jobs has also apparently forgiven ATI enough to start shipping machines with the ATI Radeon cards. In addition to that Mr Jobs urged Mac users to support Microsoft and their software endeavors on the Mac.

Steve Gibson is the cofounder of Shacknews.com. Originally known as sCary's Quakeholio back in 1996, Steve is now President of Gearbox Publishing after selling Shacknews to GameFly in 2009.
