Chattycast 65: Remasters of the Universe

The Chattycast takes a look at game remasters in the wake of the Uncharted collection.

3

We're approaching the third year of the current console generation, and remasters from the last generation are still going strong. Between Halo: MCC, Gears of War Ultimate Edition, and this week's launch of Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, publishers are still more than willing to bring back games from only a few years ago with a shiny coat of paint.

This week, the Chattycast tackles remasters. Is it a stopgap measure for slow console releases, a form of advertising, or a way to keep video games in an archival format? What do publishers owe consumers who bought the initial release? Could this primarily console-driven strategy move to PCs, or are they insulated from it? What makes a remaster worth the consumer's time?
