Oculus VR announced it would be launching the Oculus Rift as a retail product in Q1 2016, but the company has yet to reveal how much its headset will cost. Today, we’re learning the product could cost “at least $300.”

Oculus VR’s VP of product Nate Mitchell spoke with PC Gamer during yesterday’s Oculus Connect 2. During the interview, he was asked why Oculus wasn’t taking pre-orders for the Rift yet, to which his response was “there isn't a big reason to take your money too far ahead of the device.” He then continued to elaborate: “What I think about all day long is user experience, right? So if I'm going to promise you something and you're going to hand me a significant amount of money or whatever it is—we all know it's going to be at least $300—if you're going to hand me $300 today, I am not going to be excited to tell you: ‘OK, in nine, 10, 12, 11 months, whatever it is, you're going to get something in return.’ The longer you wait, the more you're like, ‘This is obnoxious.’”

Last week, we learned the PlayStation VR will cost as much as a new console, which appears to be the range the Oculus Rift is being priced at as well. We knew the start of VR wouldn’t be cheap, considering these products are the first time we can experience virtual reality from the comfort of our homes. We just hope playing Minecraft in the Rift will be worth the price of admission.
