Team Fortress 2 Halloween will showcase community's best work

Valve is too busy this year for an official Team Fortress 2 Halloween, so this year's event will showcase the community's best Halloween-themed work.

It's almost that time of year again. With the arrival of Halloween comes a new Team Fortress 2 Halloween event. However, believe it or not, after almost a decade of delivering content, Valve might actually be too busy with the game to come up with a new Halloween event.

Yes, the Team Fortress 2 development is currently waiting for the end of the three-month Gun Mettle campaign, but is also hard at work on getting the game's Mannpower Mode out of beta. Add that to trying to improve performance, tweak the game's balance, and add competitive matchmaking and one can see that the team might be a little too busy to celebrate the holidays.

"The reality is, if we produce a holiday-specific event map this year, it means we'll have to stop working on everything else," the team explains on the Team Fortress 2 website. "So: We've decided to turn Halloween mostly over to you. This year's Halloween Update will be a showcase of all the best Halloween-themed community content (items, maps, taunts and unusuals) you guys can come up with. We’ll also be activating every one of our past six Halloween Updates, so there'll still be plenty of spooky holiday-themed game modes to play."

Valve will be on the lookout for anything tagged "Halloween" before October 18, so now is the community's time to shine. On top of that, any items that get the Halloween tag will have no restrictions on them, so players will be able to wear them beyond the holiday and the full moon. So stay tuned, because even with whatever problems it might have, it's still Team Fortress 2 and it's still an old favorite.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
