Evolve free weekend welcomes in Meteor Goliath

Evolve is getting a free weekend on Xbox One and PC and that's as good a time as any to introduce the game's first monster adaptation.

It's hard to imagine mammoth monsters like Goliath becoming an afterthought, but that appears to be the case with Evolve. So 2K Games and Turtle Rock Studios are hoping to get their game back in the public consciousness by announcing that the game will get a free weekend on both Xbox One and PC starting this Friday.

The Evolve free weekend will take two days to give players access to the game and its various DLC characters. They'll also get access to the five game modes and 19 maps. If players opt to purchase the game after the free weekend, all progress will be retained.

The free weekend will also mark the debut of Meteor Goliath for all current Evolve owners, which is like Goliath, except this monster variant boasts additional range and more (literal) firepower, possibly from being more 'Meteor.' While Meteor Goliath isn't as much of a one-on-one, close-range threat as his predecessor, he makes up for it with pure area-of-effect brute strength and heightened quickness.

The Evolve free weekend will begin on September 4, with the Hunting Season 1 Pack contents available for 24 hours. On September 5, the Hunting Season 2 Pack contents become free for the subsequent 24 hours. For more, check out the video below.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
