Activision has announced a new digital collectible-card game based on its Skylanders property, called Skylanders Battlecast.

Skylanders Battlecast will be a free-to-play mobile game set within the Skylanders universe. The game will offer everything you’d expect from a digital collectible-card game, which includes strategic card combat, online PvP, as well as a single-player campaign.

Players can purchase physical card packs at retail as well as digital card packs within the game. Physical cards can be scanned into the game using a mobile device, giving Battlecast the whole toys-to-life vibe to it. Players can also scan two character cards in order to create animated duels between the two that offers different ways of interaction.

Skylanders Battlecast will be available on iOS and Android devices in 2016.

It's interesting to see Activision launching yet another collectible-card game considering just how popular Blizzard’s Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft has become. While Hearthstone is geared towards the PC crowd, it looks like Skylanders will be focusing more on fans of consoles, especially young players who have been playing the popular franchise for years.
