Capcom has been relishing its past glory with the Resident Evil franchise. The latest instance of this came earlier this year when Capcom released Resident Evil HD, a remake of the original tale that started it all. So what's next for Capcom? Remake the sequel to the original tale that started it all.

Producer Yoshiaki "H" Hirabyashi confirmed today that Capcom has given the green light to create what is tentatively titled Resident Evil 2 Remake. Hirabyashi credits the fanbase's passion for allowing this project to see the light of day and pledges to use player feedback to help shape the eventual game. However, he also notes the extensive resources that this endeavor will require, noting that it will be "some time before we can bring you can update on this project."

Of course, in the meantime, Hirabyashi notes that fans can tide themselves over with the upcoming Resident Evil 0 HD remake. The full announcement for the Resident Evil 2 Remake can be found below.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
