Nearly a week after its reveal, 2K has finally revealed Mafia 3 will be released in 2016 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Mafia 3 is being developed by one of 2K’s newest development studios, Hangar 13. The game is set in a reimagined New Orleans in 1968 that’s bustling with activity and filled with era-inspired cars, fashion, and music.

The story follows Lincoln Clay who is a Vietnam veteran that returns from combat looking for a home and place to belong. He finds the black mob and considers its members the family he’s always been looking for, that is, until they’re all brutally murdered. Lincoln becomes fixated with revenge and wages a war against the Italians, even going as far as allying himself with other criminals, to then build an empire of his own and a new family.

“The Mafia franchise is known for its immersive sense of time and place, and for presenting compelling stories about life within organized crime,” said Haden Blackman, studio head and creative director at Hanger 13. “In Mafia III, we are introducing players to an unexpected new anti-hero and an iconic city to explore, all within a hard-boiled drama set during one of the most turbulent years in American history.”

Pretty cool. Soundtrack should be rad if that's any indication.

If this is being made by the new 2K studio resulting largely from the dissolution of Irrational Games, then I'm pumped--there's a ton of talent over there!

I don't know how to feel about this.

It seems like a gigantic departure from the first two which isn't something I was really prepared for.

That said, it seems like a pretty interesting story and the little bit of the world we get to see looks well done. I think I'm still cautiously optimistic.

While this looks sweet, I'm disappointed it's not a continuation of Vito & Joe's story from Mafia 2. That M2 ending was so opened for cliffhanger sequel bait I'd expected M3 to pick right up from there.

If this is another third person shooter, then its awful. Market is saturated with it. However, IF you do more. Like own business, send guerrilla fighters (Black Panthers) out on missions, so on and so forth. Then the game warrants merit.
