LEGO Dimensions adding open-world Adventure Worlds

LEGO Dimensions will go beyond its linear story and add 14 distinct open-world Adventure Worlds based on various properties, including a Ghostbusters world that was confirmed today by publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

For the most part, LEGO Dimensions has provided a novel take on the LEGO video game franchise, offering new ways to play through the new LEGO Toy Pad. However, up to this point, it has appeared to be the same linear style of LEGO story that has comprised previous games in the series. Today, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment threw that idea for something of a loop by unveiling a new open-world element called Adventure Worlds.

The Adventure Worlds are completely separate from the LEGO Dimensions story stages. These offer up 14 different thematic open worlds to play with, all of which can be unlocked by any of that respective property's characters. With the Starter Pack already set to include Batman, Gandalf, and Wildstyle, that already opens up the world of DC Comics, Lord of the Rings, and The LEGO Movie. Additional characters can be picked up through LEGO Dimensions Level Packs, Team Packs, and Fun Packs. One of these Level Packs has been confirmed to be the Ghostbusters Level Pack, which will include LEGO Peter Venkman. The Ghostbusters Fun Pack will also include a LEGO Stay Puft and LEGO Slimer.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
