I'm thinking 'gosh how nice of her' and tell her "Yes that would be great". She then poors a glass in the kitchen with some ice and lets out a little yelp as the bubbles get a bit high and she has to suck in a bunch of the foam to keep it from spilling on the counter. Kinda cute in that goofy chick way. I look back at my screen... and then a few seconds later I hear a bunch of spitting, she's spitting it all in the sink! WTF? "I dont know how you drink that crap" So much for that whole cute thing. I dont know how she makes it through life without drinking Pepsi. Oh yeah, for the weekend bitching. The phone company emailed me today to tell me they cant seem to confirm my address and my DSL order has been put on hold. What in the hell?!!? Supposedly it was going in this Wed/Thurs timeframe but well... yeah. Cute. Weekends should be 5 days long.

Most people ask for a "coke" and just expect a fucking soda that tastes somewhere between a watered down pepsi and/or coke. But not me, I can tell the difference. When I ask for pepsi, I want fucking pepsi.
Little do people know that Mountain Dew, Lipton Iced tea, and Starbucks coffee's are also all-pepsi sponsored products. Yeah that's right, not coke but pepsi. And you also won't walk into a movie theatre that sells coke and be able to buy Mountain Dew or a Frappucino.
Wierd eh?

Though, I'm trying to run fiber gig ethernet in my apartment... that would be cool... too bad there aren't any good video sharing programs so we can watch TV in our rooms over it... heh

Cable can do a lot.... I've seen a LOT higher than 2mb/s down and much higher than 128 up... it all depends on the provider.
Because it's a shared resource, I assume, the pings tend to be higher... all depends on your neighborhood and ISP..
Oh, and a neat thing about marketing: DSL may not be "shared" like cable, but the key thing is that it's only not shared from the central office (phone company) to your residence. After that it's riding Covads network and then to your ISP's network... so while you'll have full bandwidth from CO to you, your connection to your ISP could be shared with 2000 other people...... all over a T1 line... So DSL has potential to be fast but your ISP skimping can still make you lag at peak hours...

I work for a DSL provider.... am VERY familiar with the address issue thing. If your ISP ordered it with a street address as "Main Street" and it's listed on your phone bill as "Main St" then they won't recognize it.... usually if you get a copy of your phone bill they'll be able to fix it by copying that EXACTLY... at least that's how it is over here on the east coast. Covad anyway.

I see around 1400 or so usually... remember that's BITs.... your browser/ftp program shows BYTEs so to get the conversion divide by 8... which is like 192KB/s.... I usually down load around 140-160 if the site is quick.

Find out what kind of router/bridge you're getting.... they haven't been doing the speeds 1.5/768 in a long time... Covad used to be selling SDSL bridges and SDSL lines as 768/384 or 1.5/768 and saying it was ADSL... when they were actually SDSL... some customers still think they're just ADSL...
If ya post what model router you're getting you could tell :)
Covad is really pretty decent btw :)

Nope. ADSL is "best effort" and they can't really do anything about it as long as it's within a certain range... I don't know that much about the ADSL side of things, but for SDSL they require at least 80% bandwdith.. on my 1.5 meg line I got about 95-95% and was happy. I ping 9ms to my desk at work :)
Oh yeah, and it's less than 90 a month for me ;)

The EXACT same thing happened to me.. I spend about 2 hours on the phone with them... such a pain in the ass installing the DSL through anyone but US West.. err.. quest is...
Oh, and I'm NOT dead.
Yeah... my 1.5 meg SDSL was AWESOME for 6 months... then last week while I was away it went down... new it doesn't stay up during the day. Redid inside wiring, no go. Have done more tests on it than most lines get in their entire existance... Tonight they go to the Central office to swap out the card there.... maybe that will do it.
I hope so... I miss my 20-40 pings to most servers. At least it's up at nite.
