Ninja Theory has released the first gameplay trailer for its upcoming action game, Hellblade.

When Hellblade launches next year, it will tell the story of a Celtic Warrior named Senua as she journeys into Hell. The Hell Senua journeys to isn’t just any Hell, but a Hell that is the manifestation of her mental illness as she experiences psychosis, hallucinations and delusions as she suffers from anxiety and depression. The player will witness Senua’s psychosis through her own eyes.

Ninja Theory is handling the subject of mental illness with all the respect it deserves, and is even working closely with a professor of Health Neuroscience at the University of Cambridge and various people with mental health difficulties to ensure its protrayal of Senua’s condition is both accurate and sensitive.

Hellblade is expected to be released on the PlayStation 4 in 2016 and will also be making its way to the PC shortly after.
