The World Video Game Hall of Fame selects Mario, Pac-Man, Doom, and others in first induction

The World Video Game Hall of Fame recognizes six genre-defining games for their inaugral selection.

Super Mario Bros. is one of six games to be inducted into the first class of the new World Video Game Hall of Fame. The other inaugural finalists include Doom, Pac-Man, Pong, Tetris, and World of Warcraft. These games will be on permanent display in the museum’s eGameRevolution exhibit.

The World Video Game Hall of Fame is in The Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, New York. The museum also hosts theInternational Center for the History of Electronic Games and the National Toy Hall of Fame. The finalists are judged by journalists, scholars, and video game industry members in four subjects: icon-status, longevity, geographical reach, and influence. Anyone can nominate a game for induction for induction here. Nominations sent in before March 31, 2016 will be considered in next year’s selections.
